Add to calendarJune 28 is Constitution Day of Ukraine, and this date will mark the launch of a new ensemble — Chamber Winds Kyiv. The program consists of three pieces for wind ensemble created during the heyday of pan-European modernist movements — the first half of the 20th century.
Liatoshynsky’s Suite was written during World War II. Nielsen’s Quintet was the result of the composer’s poorly timed phone call to a friend. And the "Ukrainian Quartet" by Ihor Shamo, the author of the Kyiv anthem, serves as a kaleidoscope of Ukrainian melos. It will be a conversation of different timbres weaving together in the wonderful acoustics of St. Andrew’s Church.
