Viva la mamma

For the first time in Ukraine! The Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Youth presents the opera buffa by the brilliant Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti: "VIVA LA MAMMA! (Long Live the Mother!), or Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali."

The opera unveils the intricate twists and turbulent life behind the scenes. "VIVA LA MAMMA" is a classic "play within a play," vividly illustrating the timeless conflicts between composer and poet, and directors and actors.

The plot unfolds with great dynamism. While the characters initially appear to work in harmony, their personal ambitions soon lead to a series of seemingly insurmountable contradictions. The upcoming production is on the brink of collapse! Enter Mamma Agata, the mother of one of the singers, who demands a leading role for her daughter, Luigia—a move fiercely opposed by the Prima Donna, further escalating the chaos.

Ultimately, it is Agata who finds a way out of the dead-end situation facing the troupe. Interestingly, Donizetti gave Mamma Agata the most striking musical personality, writing this grotesque role for a male voice (bass-baritone), offering the performer a unique opportunity to showcase exceptional vocal and comedic talent.
