The children's train runs on the Kiev narrow-gauge railway in Syretsky Park between two stations – "Cherry" and "Yablonka". The most important roles here are assigned to boys and girls – they invite passengers to take their seats and compost tickets; also, they announce stations.
The Kiev Children's Railway has been operating since 1953 and unites a school for young railway workers and entertainment for toddlers. Since October, there is a non-school education for children over 10 years old. They master the profession of a driver, conductor and dispatcher. From May 1 to September 1, the students of the school have a practice. During this period a children's train runs by rail: a small locomotive – on weekends, and a bright red steam locomotive on coals – on holidays.
The length of the children's railway is 2.8 km. During the 20-minute journey the train passes the viaduct bridge over the ravine at an altitude of 19.6 meters. The length of this impressive crossing is 100 meters.
Children under 6 y.o. can ride the train for free, but all the rest will need tickets.
