About event

NAMU reopens its doors with "Sontseskhid" (Sunrise), an exhibition dedicated to Anatoliy Lymarev (1929–1985).

From March 27 to June 21, the National Art Museum of Ukraine presents nearly 100 works by a master of color and light, a prominent figure of the unofficial art scene. Lymarev’s vibrant, improvisational style—often described as "jazz in paint"—was frequently rejected by Soviet art councils. Today, 40 years after his passing, his dream of a major solo exhibition at NAMU finally comes true.

The exhibition features:

  • Steppe landscapes of the Donbas region.

  • Intimate portraits of family and friends.

  • A Shevchenko-inspired cycle.

  • Unique archival photographs and a multimedia installation by Vitya Kravets and Oleksiy Shmurak.

A joint project of NAMU and the Dukat Art Foundation.
