Add to calendarFado is born where the boundary between word and sigh dissolves, and music becomes the voice of the inexpressible…
Fado is a unique genre of Portuguese music, filled with an elusive blend of longing, nostalgia, tenderness, and bittersweet sorrow. Here, the melody is born at the edge of word and silence, and the voice becomes an extension of profound experience.
The concert will feature Portuguese musicians: Fado singer Sara Paixão, master of the Portuguese guitar Ricardo J. Martins, and Bruno David on classical guitar. They will perform gems of the genre—works by J. F. Vital, F. Guimarães, V. L. Couto, D. M. Ferreira, M. Pizarra, R. Ferrão, and other authors.
The evening’s program unfolds as a series of human stories and states: "Foi por ti que eu voltei" (It was for you I returned), "Não se diz ao triste que se alegre" (One does not tell the sad to be happy), "Desengano" (Disillusionment), "Amar não é pecado" (To love is not a sin), "Abandono" (Abandonment), "Vem dançar" (Come dance).
This evening will unite the intimacy, poetry, and raw emotion of Fado—a music that has remained the voice of the Portuguese soul for over a century.
Supported by the Embassy of Portugal in Ukraine and the Camões Portuguese Language Centre.
