The concert opens with the somber and majestic Overture to George Byron's dramatic poem Manfred — Robert Schumann's favorite poem. The Overture is one of the composer's finest symphonic works; a musical portrait of Byron's hero, filled with inner struggle, existential pain, and indomitable will.
The dramatic narrative continues with Symphony No. 3 by the prominent Ukrainian composer Yakiv Gubanov. This is a rare opportunity to hear a work by our contemporary, who passed away a year ago, in a definitive performance — a true discovery for aficionados of academic music seeking answers to the challenges of today.
The evening's centerpiece is Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Guest soloist Maksym Shadko (piano) will present one of the composer's most poignant works, written at the age of 20 under the influence of his first youthful love.
CHOPIN, SCHUMANN, GUBANOV. Together, they create a space where the most essential element resounds: the truth of human experience, the truth of love. And it is this truth that remains long after the music fades.
