The KontractovaSquare is one of the oldest squares in Kiev, which arose during the times of Kyivska Rus. After the destruction of the Upper City by the Mongol-Tatars and until the XIX century remained the center of the city. Earlier it was called Aleksandrovskaya, Chervona.
