"Month of orchids," "month of pumpkins," "month of spirits"—this is the seventh month according to the traditional Chinese calendar. A complex period during which people pray for a happy marriage and... honor guests from the netherworld runs this year from August 13 to September 10 (inclusive).
How Buddhism and Daoism influenced the holidays and rituals of the season, and how these beliefs were reflected in Chinese painting, decorative art, and theater, we will discover at 2:00 PM on the day of the black dog in the month of the red monkey—that is, August 16.
The lecture "The Gates of Hell and Meeting of the Stars" will kick off a series of cultural studies meetings dedicated to more and less well-known holidays of old-world and modern China.
After registration, you will be redirected to a Telegram group chat where all necessary information will be posted.
