The program opens with the "Taras Shevchenko" Suite by Borys Lyatoshynsky. In this powerful orchestral fresco, Lyatoshynsky masterfully intertwines heroic and tragic themes, reflecting the turbulent life of the Great Kobzar and the soul of the Ukrainian people. The music features lush orchestration and a unique modern harmonic language that transforms folklore into a dramatic narrative.
The centerpiece of the evening is Violin Concerto No. 4 by Myroslav Skoryk. Composed in 1993, this work is a hallmark of the composer's "neo-romantic" style. It is a piece of profound lyrical beauty, where Skoryk’s signature bittersweet harmonies meet breathtaking virtuosity and soulful melodies rooted in Ukrainian folk intonations.
The final accent will be Symphony No. 1 by Jean Sibelius. The work that brought the Finnish genius global acclaim impresses with its elemental power and rugged Northern beauty. From the haunting opening clarinet solo to the epic brass calls of the finale, this symphony breathes the spirit of Finnish landscapes and a nation’s resolute will for self-assertion.
This concert affirms the inner strength born from the depths of one's native land—a meeting with music that shapes identity, memory, and the invincible beauty of the human spirit.
