The Museum of Kyiv History has opened the exhibition project "When Angels Meet. On the History of Military Medicine in Kyiv," dedicated to Military Medic Day, celebrated in Ukraine on July 27. The exhibition tells the story of over 270 years of the development of military medicine in Ukraine and the people who, across different eras, saved the lives of defenders.
The title of the exhibition symbolizes the encounter between a wounded soldier and a military medic—the moment when a human life hangs in the balance. Through historical artifacts and contemporary testimonies, the project demonstrates the continuity of the tradition of military medicine, from the establishment in 1755 of the Kyiv Military Hospital, Ukraine’s oldest military medical institution, to the medics working on the frontline today.
Visitors can view authentic artifacts, documents, photographs, medical equipment, and personal belongings of military medics. The central artistic image of the exhibition is military stretcher gear transformed by artist Serhii Babiy into painted canvases, combining documentation, symbolism, and the memory of the struggle for human life.
A special place in the exposition is held by the medical kit of combat medic Ruslan Kozak ("Kolyvan"), assembled during his active combat service and supplemented by his subsequent experience as a tactical medicine instructor.
