Add to calendar“One note is enough, if it sounds beautiful” – these words by Arvo Pärt could become an epigraph to the evening called “Chimera Scores”. For what is chimera if not the ability to hear the infinite in one sound, the whole world – in a single breath of the bow?
Here, each composer creates his own universe from seemingly familiar notes. Gustav Holst transforms an ancient jig into a rapid flight. Stephen Reich finds the hypnotic beauty of repetitions in a duet for two violins. Paul Hindemith proves with mournful music that even in the silence of grief, a perfect note lives. And Genevieve Stronska writes a soundtrack for a film that does not exist – because music is able to create images where no one has filmed them.
In the second section, Pärt’s quote itself receives its fullest embodiment. His “Fratres” is the search for that one, perfect note that stops time. It sounds in dialogue with Vazhi Azarashvili’s passionate concerto and Giovanni Sollima’s incendiary “Violoncelles, vibrez!”, where two cellos make the space vibrate.
“Chimeric Scores” is an evening where every note has a special meaning. And even one – if it sounds beautiful – is worth the entire concert!
