Date and time
Add to calendarWe invite you to visit a unique exhibition dedicated to the history of weapons and military equipment in Ukraine from ancient times to the present day.
The museum's arms collection began in the late 19th century. Today, it is being supplemented with modern examples of weapons and military gear, including items from the Russo-Ukrainian war. The exhibition showcases the weapons with which Ukrainians and their predecessors fought and won. It also features both allied weaponry and captured trophies—won back from the enemy.
For instance, the Cossack era is represented by Western European, Polish, Turkish, and Muscovite weapons and armor. The times of the Ukrainian national liberation struggles of the 20th century are represented by weaponry from the armies of the UNR (Ukrainian People's Republic), UGA (Ukrainian Galician Army), and UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army). The use of trophy weapons by the Cossacks and UPA warriors parallels the current use by Ukrainians of tanks abandoned by the Russians during their retreats.
Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Battle of Kumeiky, which took place in December 1637. There, the Crown Army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth clashed with Cossack-peasant forces led by Pavlo But. Last year, the battle site was explored by the museum's archaeological expedition.
One of the display cases is dedicated to museum staff members who volunteered to defend Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
