On May 23, the Museum of Avant-Garde opens its new exhibition season with "Avant-Gardists" (Авангардистки) — an exhibition unveiling the multifaceted contribution of women to the formation of Ukrainian avant-garde art and tracing its continuity from the early 20th century to the present day.
At the heart of the exposition are names known worldwide: Alexandra Exter, Sonia Delaunay, Chana Orloff, Anna Staritsky, Olha Rapay, Liudmyla Yastreb, and other artists whose works have not only become part of history but continue to inspire and find new forms of expression.
Visitors are in for a special museum premiere: for the first time, Alexandra Exter's painting "City" will be presented, taking a place of honor in the exposition. There are several truly unique highlights:
a museum reconstruction of stage lighting based on Alexandra Exter’s 1930 album "Theatrical Decorations," created by artist Oleksandr Levych with the support of Ukrgasbank;
tapestries and patchwork pieces by Ukrainian artisans, created based on theatrical sketches by Alexandra Exter and compositions by Sonia Delaunay — as a gesture of support, memory, and a continuation of a creative dialogue;
a new addition to the museum's collection: Dmytro Horbachov has donated Sonia Delaunay's lithograph "Syncopated Rhythm" (1967), which is also featured in the exhibition.
To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, a special event will take place: the presentation of a coin dedicated to Alexandra Exter. This is the first coin in the "Ukrainian Avant-Garde" series, initiated by the National Bank of Ukraine.
