What to Do in Kyiv on the Weekend of January 23–25: Performances, Concerts, Stand-ups, and Exhibitions

During power outages, cultural events become one of the few stable options for spending the weekend outside the home. This selection includes concerts, performances, parties, stand-up shows, and exhibitions taking place in Kyiv on January 23–25. We have gathered events of different formats and price categories so you can plan your weekend regardless of electricity supply schedules.

Performance Flambe

A new performance by the legendary Freedom Ballet is based on the novel Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands by Jorge Amado. At the center of the story is a woman who has devoted her entire life to cooking and tries to be the perfect wife. But another love appears in her life — “spicy, wild, and burning, a love that has already had its ending but is not ready to let go.”

The music for the performance was created by Dmytro Kadnai — it becomes an important part of the dramaturgy and enhances the emotional rhythm of the production.

Admission: from 490 UAH

Gran’ 1 year

The “Gran’” party celebrates its first year — and does so in its signature format, full of intrigue. The organizers are keeping the venue secret, promising to announce it shortly before the event.

The music will be provided by RELYVE, Sasha Storm, Polka b2b Jmdasha, Maria Rodina, Powertech, Eteilla, and Rudni.

Admission: from 1150 UAH

Performance “Lemons”

The first comedy by the Veterans Theatre is a story about coming of age, brotherhood, and war — without heroization and without moralizing. At the center of the plot are three brothers on the front line: two volunteered from the very first days, while the third ended up there because of debts. The eldest tries to control everything, the middle one carries the tension for everyone, and the youngest tries not to get drawn into even greater chaos.

This is a performance about how three adult men try to cope with war, family ties, and their own fears — and do not always emerge victorious.

The project was implemented with the support of the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine within the Resilience Fund.

Exhibition “Fragments of Memories”

The Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv opens a solo project by Lviv-based artist Artur Soletskyi — an exhibition about memory and fragmented experience that is difficult to put into words but can be lived through on the level of sensations.

In Soletskyi’s works, the personal becomes universal: man and woman appear as generalized images of bodily and emotional memory, while recurring symbols have no fixed meaning and leave space for interpretation.

The combination of painting and sculpture forms an exhibition space resembling a mechanism of memory — with pauses, repetitions, and fragments. Here, the viewer does not receive ready-made answers but enters a field of memories and reflection, where personal experience plays a key role.

The exhibition will run until February 8.

Concert of Kobzar Art

On January 24, the capital will host a jubilee concert that brings together kobzar and bandura art from different generations. The program includes both traditional solo songs of wandering minstrels and performances by contemporary youth bands working with the kobzar tradition today.

The audience will hear performers on the lyre, kobza, old-style and noble bandura, as well as laureates of professional competitions and masters of modern bandura. The concert demonstrates how a living tradition is preserved and developed in a contemporary sound.

Retro Party “Only in Kyiv”

On this day, the musical foyer of the National Philharmonic will transform into a space where song tradition meets the young voices of the modern academic stage. Philharmonic artists together with soloists from leading Ukrainian ensembles create a format in which a classical institution opens up to a new generation of musicians.

The program features songs born in Kyiv and familiar to several generations: “Dnipro Waltz,” “Kyiv, My Dear,” “Fog Over the Valley,” “Green Maple,” as well as works by Ihor Shamo, Oleksandr Bilash, Ihor Poklad, and their contemporaries. This music, once heard from tape recorders and cinema screens, returns in new arrangements and performance interpretations.

Exhibition “Journeys. Transcarpathia — Zakarpattia”

The exhibition invites visitors on a visual journey through Zakarpattia — via landscapes, genre scenes, and portraits created by artists of different generations. The exhibition builds a dialogue between the classics of the Zakarpattian school — in particular Adalbert Erdeli and Yosyp Bokshai — and later artists, including Fedir Manailo and Havrylo Hliuk.

Rich colors, attention to the Carpathian landscape, and folk motifs form an image of a region where tradition retains a living presence while simultaneously opening up to a new perspective.

The exhibition is held with the support of the Serhii Tsiupko Charitable Foundation.
