Do you love fishing but aren't quite familiar with stocked locations? Kyivmaps has gathered a list of the top fishing spots in Kyiv and the Kyiv region and is ready to share them in this article.
When preparing for fishing, don't forget about the rules established in the Law of Ukraine "On Fisheries, Commercial Fishing, and Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources" and other regulatory acts.
We would like to remind you that it is important to know the following from the provided information. Firstly, remember the catch limits that are currently in effect: by law, you can catch 5 kilograms of fish in paid waters and 3 kilograms in those open to the public. Secondly, fishing is prohibited in certain places and during specific periods.
In particular, you can fish for free and without any special documents or permits in Kyiv and the Kyiv region in any water body of general use. These include lakes, ponds, flooded quarries, and reservoirs. The exception to these rules concerns protected natural areas. If it comes to special water use areas, you must obtain a permit in advance and pay for it.
There are many places in the capital where you can fish for free. A classic option is the Dnipro River, specifically in locations like: along Rusanivska Embankment; in the Venetian Strait; in Matviivska Bay; from the metro bridge; near Severny Bridge. Another popular spot among avid fishermen is Domanya Bay in Troieshchyna.
The main feature of this location is fishing in an artificial, small but very picturesque lake. Simply being here is a special kind of pleasure. Around the lake, there are gazebos for fishermen, and on the opposite shore, there are cozy two-story houses with terraces on the water. In the middle of the lake, there is a fountain.
In the "Marakuya" Lake, you can catch carp. You can bring all the necessary fishing gear with you, or if not, bait, a landing net, and fishing rods will be provided on-site. You can take your catch with you or clean and cook it right here, either on an open fire or in the kitchen.
The complex operates from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. If you plan to fish in the morning, we recommend renting a house so that you can head to the lake at a time that suits you.

As of November 1st, fishing is prohibited in wintering pits. The list and boundaries of these areas are approved annually by the fish protection authorities or inspections. You can view the lists and maps of wintering pits across various regions on the State Fishery Agency of Ukraine’s website. For violations and being caught in the act, the fisherman must pay a fine (680 UAH) and compensation for the value of the catch.
Outside of prohibited zones, fishing is allowed. However, you must use winter fishing rods with vertical jigs, mormyshkas, baited and live bait gear with hooks no larger than size 10. The number of hooks per fishing trip should not exceed five in public water bodies and no more than ten in paid fishing locations.
