Event dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident

Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Chornobyl Disaster: A Meeting with Witnesses at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.

April 26, 2026, marks the 40th anniversary of the disaster at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (1986) — the most severe man-made catastrophe in the history of nuclear energy, which had profound and long-lasting political, socio-economic, and environmental impacts on Ukraine.

For Ukrainian society, April 26 is a day of remembrance and a tribute to the heroism of the NPP staff, firefighters, military personnel, engineers, scientists, medics, and all those who participated in the liquidation of the accident's consequences.

To honor this date, on April 25, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine will host a meeting with direct participants of those events:

• Mykola HRYTSENKO — currently a writer, journalist, and Merited Artist of Ukraine; in June–August 1986, he served as a Lieutenant of the Armed Forces and commander of a truck convoy servicing the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

• Leonid HRYTSAIENKO — currently a Doctor of Law and Professor; from 1983 to 1988, he served as the Prosecutor of the Chornobyl district. He is the author of the book The Chornobyl Tragedy Through the Eyes of a Prosecutor.
