Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is one of the largest botanical gardens in Europe, located in the heart of Kyiv, on the picturesque slopes of the Dnipro River in the Pechersk district. Founded in 1936, the garden spans over 130 hectares and serves as a unique center for scientific research, nature conservation, and cultural education. It is named after academician Mykola Gryshko — a prominent Ukrainian botanist and geneticist.
The garden's territory is divided into several scientific and exhibition departments, each representing the flora of a specific region or ecosystem type. Visitors can stroll through areas featuring plants from the Caucasus, Crimea, Central Asia, the Far East, the Carpathians, and Polissia. The section of tropical and subtropical plants with its large greenhouse is especially notable, showcasing bananas, cacao, orchids, palms, bamboo, and other exotic species.
In spring, the botanical garden becomes a true mecca for lovers of natural beauty, thanks to its famous lilac collection, which includes over 20 species and about 150 varieties. During this time, the slopes above the Dnipro are covered in fragrant purple clouds of blooming lilac, attracting thousands of visitors.
In addition to scientific work, the garden is open to locals and tourists alike. It hosts guided tours, flower festivals, photo exhibitions, and various cultural events. It is a perfect place for walks, photography, relaxation in nature, and creative inspiration. Observation decks offer breathtaking views of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the Dnipro River, and the city's skyline.
The M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden is a harmonious blend of science, natural beauty, and cultural life, offering everyone a chance to immerse themselves in the world of plants, feel the rhythm of nature, and find peace among the lush greenery.
