Zoya Zhmut lives by the dream of giving her children a better life. Isn’t that the wish of every mother? She wants her children to walk through the village while everyone looks on in admiration, thinking, "The Zhmuts are walking by!" Her field must be the best, her daughters-in-law the wealthiest, and her son-in-law exactly as she chooses. And this desire takes on pathological forms. The disintegration of the family, the rift between generations, the loss of essential human values — these themes have become even deeper and more poignant in today's world.
