About event

On March 4, 2026, the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko will host the opening of the exhibition "Status: Missing. State: Waiting, Loving" — the stories of families living with ambiguous loss.

The exhibition project features works created by the relatives of missing service members. These are pieces born from tender faith and the immense strength to live in the present—for themselves and for their loved ones. To wait and to be there when that support is needed most.

It includes stories of mothers who now see a son in every stranger and show kindness to all, hoping their own child receives the same help. Of wives waiting for husbands they have spent half a lifetime with. Here, the phrase "This painting is not for sale; it's for him" speaks of a space kept exclusively for a loved one's return.

Today, at least 80,000 Ukrainian families are experiencing ambiguous loss. This exhibition invites you to witness just a few of these stories. They are not only about pain but about transforming that pain into art and finding the strength to keep believing and waiting.

  • Dates: March 4–29, 2026.

  • Admission: Free.

  • Museum Hours: Wed–Sun 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Ticket office until 5:15 PM).
