About event

On July 7, the National Museum "Kyiv Art Gallery" opened a unique exhibition project dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian artist Anna Kruger-Prakhova.

The exhibition presents a complete retrospective of the artist's journey through thematic zones:

  • Youth: photographs, documents, and early drawings from her time studying at Mykola Murashko’s Kyiv Drawing School.

  • The Capri Period: the central block of the exhibition, a time of her highest creative peak on the Italian island of Capri, where her three children were born. The exhibition shows how the artist harmoniously combined art and motherhood.

  • Animalistics: a special place in the project. In each room, expressive sketches, studies, and large compositions are presented, where animals are assigned psychologically deep roles.

  • The Soviet Period: late portraits from the time of her membership in the Union of Artists, where she balanced between the ideological requirements of the system and her own calling in order to provide for her family.

Symbolically, the exhibition is displayed in the halls where her famous portrait by Oleksandr Murashko was recently exhibited. Now, this work returns surrounded by her own creations.
