Viennese Classics and French Charm

This evening will be an encounter with music that remains timeless across the centuries, revealing a wealth of styles, eras, and creative individualities to the audience—from the immortal classics of Mozart and Haydn to the refined French elegance of Jean Françaix.

The first part features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Divertimento for String Ensemble, KV 136—an early masterpiece by the composer, brimming with light, joy, and striking melodic inventiveness. This piece showcases the maestro's youthful genius and, serving as an energetic, festive introduction, will set a vibrant pulse for the entire evening.

The program continues with Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1, one of the most beloved works in the cello repertoire. This noble and expressive masterpiece naturally extends the classical line of the first part, providing the soloist—the virtuoso Marc Coppey—with a space for inspired artistry.

The second part is dedicated to the music of Jean Françaix. His Symphonie d'archets (Symphony for String Orchestra) captivates with its wit, refined texture, and filigree orchestral craftsmanship. In this work, classical transparency combines with a modern harmonic language, light humor, and inexhaustible energy. The piece stands out for its exceptional dynamism, making Françaix's Symphony a compelling final chord to the evening.
