Add to calendar"This is the Sound of Ukraine" is a musical portrait of a nation, woven from diverse styles, generations, and artistic languages that together form a cohesive image of Ukrainian musical culture.
The program brings together choral, vocal, and orchestral music of the 20th and 21st centuries—ranging from the classics of the Ukrainian school of composition to contemporary authors. The first half centers on the poetic word, primarily the texts of Taras Shevchenko, as reimagined through the music of Borys Liatoshynskyi, Stanyslav Liudkevych, Mykola Kolessa, Viktor Ikonnyk, and others. It presents a full spectrum of Ukrainian history and culture: intimate and civic lyricism, lullabies and epics, solo vocals, and choral performance.
The second half reveals another dimension of Ukrainian music—instrumental, vibrant, and diverse in genre. Works by Usein Bekirov, Myroslav Skoryk, Yevhen Stankovych, Bohdana Frolyak, and other composers demonstrate the openness of Ukrainian culture to dialogue with European traditions, tango, neoclassicism, folklore impulses, and modern symphonic thinking.
