Do you want to hear how modernity sounds when intertwined with classical traditions? Today, the cozy Musical Foyer of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will become a space for brilliant musical discoveries. The legendary Kyiv Saxophone Quartet, led by Merited Artist of Ukraine Yurii Vasylevych, will present the program "Kyiv SAX Quartet. Premieres"—an evening that showcases the boundless possibilities of a saxophone ensemble and boldly combines different eras, genres, and musical traditions.
Performed by Yurii Vasylevych, Mykhailo Mymryk, Stanislav Nidzelskyi, and Roman Fotuyma, the concert will feature works filled with profound contrasts. The poignant "Adagio" by Samuel Barber and the majestic "Sacrum Diptych" by Viktor Stepurko will open the program with music of inner focus and spiritual uplift. They will be followed by the elegant ragtimes of Scott Joplin, captivating with their flawless rhythm and refined charm, while the colorful "Greek Suite" by Pedro Iturralde will enthrall listeners with its intertwining of folk dances Kalamatianos and Kritis with jazz intonations, a Jazz Waltz, and the explosive energy of Funky.
The climax of the evening will be the virtuosic "Improvisations" by Phil Woods and the legendary Stevie Wonder hit "Sir Duke"—music of freedom, drive, and inexhaustible vital energy.
The intimate chamber format of the concert will create a special atmosphere, allowing the audience to experience the full beauty, energy, and velvety timbres of the four saxophones literally at arm’s length.
