Add to calendarThe exhibition "Europe and Ukraine: A Dialogue Through the Ages" is designed to illustrate the influence of Western European culture on Ukraine in cultural, artistic, technological, industrial, and socio-political contexts. Over the centuries, Ukrainian culture has organically adapted Western European styles, a fact vividly illustrated by the works of fine and decorative art from the late 18th and 19th centuries featured in the exhibition.
On display, you will see furniture in the style of the famous French cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle (1642–1732), Western European cabinet furniture, exquisite Austrian living room pieces in the Biedermeier style, and French carved display cabinets in the "Second Rococo" style.
The interior decor is complemented by massive vases, bronze candelabras, and table sculptures reminiscent of the works of French sculptor Clodion. These pieces did more than just shape the tastes of the Ukrainian elite of that era; they stimulated the domestic production of such items within Ukraine.
Most of the furniture in the exhibition comes from the collection of the Tereshchenko family of industrialists and patrons. Additionally, the exhibition features materials illustrating the impact of mid-19th-century Western European democratic transformations on the realities of Ukraine under the Russian Empire.
