The solo concert program of pianist Maksym Shadko features works by three composers from different eras: Johann Sebastian Bach, Borys Lyatoshynsky, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Three authors, three worldviews, and three distinct piano soundscapes. Known for his subtle sense of style, intellectual depth of interpretation, and attention to the dramaturgy of musical form, Maksym Shadko structures the program as a dialogue between different artistic worlds, where each piece reveals itself in all its uniqueness.
The evening opens with the bright and life-affirming French Suite in G Major by Bach—music that is clear, refined, and full of playfulness and balanced movement. In contrast, the monumental cycle "Reflections" by Lyatoshynsky emerges: the sound becomes stark and modern, the texture rich, the harmonies sharp, and the rhythm takes on a nervous, jagged pulsation. The program concludes with Beethoven's Seventeenth Sonata, "The Tempest." In it, dramatic surges alternate with deep, intimate concentration, while the finale leaves a sense of uncertainty and anxious incompleteness.
This concert is an opportunity to hear one of the brightest representatives of the young generation of Ukrainian pianists in a program that demands not only virtuosity but also a subtle understanding of three vastly different musical languages.
