On April 19 at 4:00 PM, we invite you to the cozy Readeat bookstore for our next art session: "Art and Craftsmanship."
Let’s explore: what is art in the highest sense of the word, and what is craftsmanship as understood by connoisseurs? This topic is bound to spark many questions. The common belief that craft is merely about functional objects while art is exclusively for aesthetic pleasure is quite superficial. There are many masterpieces created by genius artists intended for everyday life — for instance, the jewelry based on Alphonse Mucha’s designs. Conversely, there are many handcrafted objects that serve no practical purpose at all.
During our art talk, we will discuss:
What exactly makes art "fine" or "high"?
Can a handcrafted object hold significant artistic value?
How can one distinguish a work of art from a piece of craft?
Speaker: Hanna Vladymyrska — art historian and writer.
Exhibition Project: "Spring. Female Names of Boichukism"
