The monument is dedicated to the Ukrainian composer, folklorist, the founder of the national classical music school Nikolai Vitalievich Lysenko at the Theater Square near the National Opera of Ukraine. Taras Shevchenko was established in 1965. The authors of the monument are sculptor Alexander Kovalev and architect Vasily Gnezdilov. The bronze sessile artist's figure is mounted on a rectangular pedestal made of gray granite, an annotation inscription is placed on the pedestal. The height of the monument is 7.0 m. The composer with his right hand, slightly raised in the conductor's gesture, seems to listen to the sounds of music. The sculpture is made in a realistic manner, painted with a romantic emotional interpretation. Nikolay Lysenko lived in Kiev most of his life, recent years - on the modern street. Saksaganskogo, 95-b. Lysenko named the street in Kiev; in the second half of XX century. until 1982, Lysenko Street combined the staircase with the Theater Square, on which a monument to the composer was erected.
