On June 25 at 6:30 PM, we invite you to Mystetskyi Arsenal for the opening of a new exhibition—"Glimmering Connections. Ukrainian Painting at the Turn of the 90s and Today."
In contemporary art, there is a noticeable return to painting. That is why this project proposes to view painting as a space of continuous dialogue between artists of different generations.
The exhibition features works by Ukrainian artists from two distinct periods: from the second half of the 1980s to the first half of the 1990s, and from the last decade.
The connections between these two generations are glimmering: in some places, they are clearly visible, while in others, they remain mere assumptions. Yet, within this constant dialogue, one can always find echoes between approaches, gestures, artworks, and authors. Furthermore, both then and now, painting has developed amidst historical turning points and upheavals.
The exposition will span 7 halls of the Old Arsenal building. Among the key themes of "Glimmering Connections" are myth and apocrypha, man within the landscape, transformations of the body, references to art history and cinema, the ephemeral and the real, as well as painting as a way to question oneself.
