Spring is a time for nature’s renewal and the blossoming of life. The earth awakens, days grow longer, and the air fills with movement and inspiration for labor and creativity.
Our ancestors believed that spring must be invited and summoned with the voice. They sang special spring songs to awaken nature and call forth life-giving solar warmth and light. Vesnianky are a way to connect with nature and feel like an inseparable part of it.
We invite you to a journey through the authentic spring song tradition—a course that will help you manifest your voice and explore the experience of group singing as a living tradition.
This course offers:
An introduction to spring songs from various regions of Ukraine;
Mastering the traditional manner of singing and resonance;
Working through physical and vocal tensions;
Learning to sound in unison;
The opportunity to try different roles in group singing: various parts, leading the melody (zaspiv), and vocal counterpoints (vyvid);
Practicing polyphony;
Singing in a circle, interaction, and mutual support.
Instructor — Yuliia Mykolaichuk, ethno-singer, ethnomusicologist, member of the Viltse ensemble, and traditional singing teacher who blends folk tradition with an understanding of vocal physiology and ecological singing.
The classes are valuable for those with no prior experience in traditional singing, as well as for those who have already taken their first steps. The course is designed for a women's group.
