Add to calendarLent in Christianity is a season of silence, inner focus, and self-reflection. During this time, music takes on a profound significance: it becomes a space for prayer and attentive listening. The spiritual psalms and chants (kanty) forming the core of this program address themes of hope, love, and trust in God, offering the listener a chance to experience the journey of Lent through music.
The space of St. Andrew’s Church is an integral part of this program, serving as a site where Ukrainian and Italian cultures unite, both architecturally and musically. It is in this sanctuary that Ukrainian spiritual chants of the 17th–18th centuries naturally harmonize with Italian Early Baroque music.
Liatoshynskyi Capella: Early Music Ensemble is dedicated to reviving, interpreting, and promoting the Ukrainian Baroque heritage—specifically its kanty and psalms. In the program "O, Beloved Son," these works appear as a living tradition capable of speaking to the modern soul. The chamber sound of voices and historical instruments, combined with the unique acoustics of St. Andrew’s Church, creates an environment for focused listening and inner light.
