NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART NAMED AFTER BOGDAN AND VARVARA KHANENKO 15, Vulytsya Tereshchenkivsʹka, Kyiv
The summer season of the Lecture Hall at the Khanenko Museum has begun, so we are sharing the schedule of our upcoming meetings:
July 18 at 3:00 PM — "Badenas and Barbara: The Khanenkos' Italian Holidays." Speaker: Kateryna Hotsalo
The Khanenkos visited Italy almost every year. Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples have plenty to tell about them! Which note by Bohdan Khanenko is kept in the Vatican Apostolic Archive? What did the Italian press write about Varvara Khanenko? What did Bohdan purchase, and what did Varvara acquire, and what mysteries did they leave behind in the Eternal City? During this lecture, we will get acquainted with recently discovered evidence about the Khanenkos in Italian archives and periodicals.
August 15 at 3:00 PM — "Villa Lysis and an Artistic Summer on Capri." Speaker: Pavlo Zolotukha
Can the history of one villa on a small Mediterranean island reflect the trends of an entire era? We are talking about Villa Lysis, named after Plato's dialogue of the same name, which, according to some interpretations, is a dialogue about same-sex love. This villa on Capri was built by the French poet Baron Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen after he was forced to flee Paris due to a sexual scandal. The estate quickly began to attract the European bohemia. Guests included painter Paul Höcker, photographer Wilhelm von Gloeden, and the aristocrat and collector Luisa Casati. Mysticism, forbidden love, opium parties, art, photography, and inspiration from antiquity — this small patch of land seems to have concentrated everything Europe dreamed of at the time.
Tickets can be purchased online on our website or at the Museum box office.
