Add to calendarWe invite you to a weekend excursion dedicated to the image of Archangel Michael, a pivotal national symbol of Ukraine.
Since the era of Kyivan Rus, the Archangel has been among the most beloved Ukrainian saints. This is reflected in the numerous churches dedicated to him and his presence on icons, medals, awards, city heraldry, coins, postcards, book illustrations, engravings, flags, and stamps. Various organizations choose him as their patron. Often, Archangel Michael serves as a symbol not only of the Dnieper region but of all Ukraine; his image was a key element in the proposed coats of arms of a United Ukraine (Soborna Ukraina).
The centerpiece of the exhibition is a magnificent 18th-century bas-relief of the Archangel that once adorned the Kyiv Town Hall. The oldest exhibits include medallions dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Specific sections are dedicated to St. Michael’s Golden-Domed and St. Michael’s Vydubychi Monasteries, featuring unique liturgical items such as a Cross and a Chalice gifted by Metropolitan Petro Mohyla.
