Date and time
Add to calendarThe Treasury of the NMHU invites you to a guided tour of the exhibition "MİRAS. Heritage," an immersion into the living heritage of the indigenous people of Crimea.
This exhibition is a joint project with the NGO "Alem," dedicated to protecting and promoting Crimean Tatar intangible cultural heritage. It aims to showcase Crimean Tatar culture as a living phenomenon with continuous traditions that still shape social values, daily life, and political culture today.
For the first time, "MİRAS. Heritage" comprehensively presents the largest collection of Crimean Tatar jewelry and household items from the 19th and early 20th centuries found in mainland Ukraine. Highlights include silver qushaqs (women’s belts) and topeliks (traditional headpiece ornaments) that showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of Crimean Tatar filigree. Also on display are silver Quran cases, men’s amulets, coffee sets, traditional clothing, and gold embroidery.
Visitors will explore the customs, art, and spiritual traditions of the Crimean Tatar people through rich ornamental compositions. The masters created these works not just for decoration, but to express deep meanings shared by Ukrainians as well: the desire for prosperity, strong family ties, safety, respect for elders, and a profound connection to one’s homeland.
The second hall features lithographs by Friedrich Gross, depicting the traditional Crimean Tatar world of the early 19th century, when the heritage of the Khanate era was still vibrant. Many of the monuments captured by Gross were subsequently destroyed during Russian colonization.
