About event

On May 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine (2 Volodymyrska St, Kyiv) will host the opening of the exhibition "Inscribed/Tempered" (Zakarbovano/Zahartovano) — the first showcase of works by Mariupol defender Vitaliy Kulahin.

Siege, captivity, and dreams are the central themes of these drawings. They document a painful past and a harsh reality while still leaving room for hope.

The artist creates under the pseudonym Marian Bilokin. This persona became a protective shell during his trials in the penal colonies of the Donetsk region and Russian detention centers. Amid physical and psychological torture, Vitaliy/Marian conceived artistic ideas that became the core of his inner resistance and a vow to show the world what truly happened in Mariupol and Russian prisons.

We invite you to witness these testimonies of the superhuman resilience shown by Mariupol's defenders and the barbaric treatment of civilians and prisoners of war by Russia.

  • Admission: Included with a museum ticket — 200 UAH (100 UAH for students, schoolchildren, and seniors).

  • Opening Hours: After May 15, the exhibition is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Ticket office closes at 5:00 PM).

  • Inquiries: (044) 278-48-64 or 093 855 61 16 (Viber & Telegram).
