How to Distinguish Styles in Ukrainian Visual Art

From October 5 to 14, Cultosvita will host the intensive course "How to Distinguish Styles in Ukrainian Visual Art" led by Diana Klochko.

Despite being systematically targeted for destruction (and unfortunately continuing to be so today), Ukrainian art has always developed within the context of Europe's main stylistic movements. However, the surviving monuments of every style across our lands, starting from antiquity, possess distinct features.

During this intensive, we will examine Ukrainian artifacts, compare them with European counterparts, and learn to spot stylistic markers—even when multiple artistic languages intertwine within a single work.

You will explore:

• how major painting styles evolved across Ukraine;

• the artistic features of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, and Impressionism;

• the similarities and differences between various styles of visual art;

• artworks that vividly express the characteristics of specific visual styles.

• Lecturer: Diana Klochko — art historian, exhibition curator, lecturer, essayist, translator, and author of "65 Ukrainian Masterpieces: Recognized and Implicit" and "Self-Portraits of Thirteen Ukrainian Women."
