On September 22, Cultosvita will host a free lecture titled "Music of the 1960s–1980s: How Ukraine Sounded Before Independence."

What we will discuss:

• The 1960s: global musical trends and what actually reached the USSR;

• VIA (Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles)—the Ukrainian pop scene of the 1970s: the history of their creation and popularity;

• Western funk, soul, rock, and Ukrainian folklore—the birth of "mustache funk";

• "Chervona Ruta" and other hits: how Ukrainian chart-toppers were made.

• Lecturer: Mariana Khemii — producer of the band MOVA, cultural project manager, journalist, editor, and communications specialist. Recipient of the Markiyan Ivashyshyn Fellowship 2021.
