If you don’t have plans for the last weekend of March yet, Kyiv offers plenty of options. The city will host concerts by IVAN LIULENOV, “Livinston,” and Oleksandr Ponomaryov, exhibitions at M17, NAOMA, and Squat 17b, the musical “The Addams Family,” as well as festivals for fans of K-pop, anime, and historical dance. We’ve compiled events for March 28–29 that are worth your attention.

IVAN LIULENOV Concert

On March 28, IVAN LIULENOV will present a new concert program, “What Is Not Allowed.” It will combine already well-known songs — “Mulberry,” “I Give,” “That’s Not Us” in a new sound — along with premieres that reveal another side of the artist’s творчість.

Guest performers will also join the concert, though their names have not yet been announced.

“After this terrible winter, life feels different. All that remains is to allow yourself this new life. A new emotion,” Ivan notes.

The exhibition will feature prints, originals, ceramic panels, and vyryvankas. The works combine Old Testament сюжетами and images of fantastical animals inspired by folk art.

At the center of the plot is Wednesday Addams, who falls in love with an ordinary boy. What this meeting will lead to for two very different families will be revealed on stage.

The project explores themes of memory, history, and cultural heritage. “Cloud Storage” proposes viewing art as a way of rethinking the past, addressing the asynchronicity of history and collective memory, the fragility of cultural heritage, war as a factor in shaping new memory in Ukraine, and the limits of digitalizing human experience.

The dance program is based on original choreographed dances by the Joyssance Historical Dance Studio, Vintage Dance Community, and other contemporary authors. Organizers ask guests to follow the dress code: historical attire from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century or costumes of characters from European fairy tales and legends. Meeting “From the History of Ancient Musical Instruments. Jew’s Harp (Drymba)”

The National Museum of the History of Ukraine is launching a series of interactive programs titled “From the History of Ancient Musical Instruments.” The first meeting is dedicated to the jew’s harp, also known as the drymba.

The event will begin with a story about archaeologist Serhii Hamchenko, who in 1926 discovered a 11th–12th century jew’s harp on Starokyivska Hill. During the event, visitors will be able to see not only this instrument but also other Old Rus artifacts from the 1926–1927 excavations from the museum’s collection.

Then there will be a meeting with Ukrainian drymba player Andrii Kozachenko, who plays various types of the instrument, creates them, and promotes their modern sound. He will talk about the history of the jew’s harp, its varieties, and playing techniques, and will also hold a workshop where participants can try playing the instrument themselves.
