Ukraine’s Independence Day has always been a symbol of our national pride and resilience. However, after the full-scale invasion by Russia, this day has taken on an even deeper significance. It is not just a holiday but a reminder of our struggle and the people who defend Ukraine's freedom every day on the frontlines and at home. During these days, Kyiv transforms into a center of national unity, where every street and square echoes the strength of the Ukrainian spirit.

We’ve gathered locations and events in the capital on August 24–25 where you can experience the atmosphere of this special day and pay tribute to the defenders.

“About Ukrainian” festival

The “About Ukrainian” Festival at the Ukrainian House is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in Ukrainian culture and art. From August 22 to 25, there will be film screenings, lectures, concerts, and performances dedicated to our values: courage, freedom, humor, sensitivity, and love.

Visitors can enjoy performances by DakhTrio, the “Shadow” theater, artist Chuprynenko, film screenings by KISFF, and much more. The atmosphere will be enhanced by thematic photo zones, a cozy space for communication, a bookstore, a creative market, and a café.

Festival "About Ukrainian"

“Unconquered” tour concert

The “Unconquered” concert will feature famous Ukrainian performers who will express the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian spirit through their songs. The lineup includes domestic rock stars “Druha Rika,” KOZAK SYSTEM, and Marta Lipchenko.

100% of the proceeds from the concerts will go towards purchasing “birds” for our defenders.

“Ivan Marchuk. Cosmic mystery of Life” exhibition

The exhibition features over 180 works from various periods of the outstanding Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk. It includes 15 of the author's cycles, from early experiments to watercolors. Each painting tells its own story. Visitors will see meditative landscapes, thoughtful portraits, abstract compositions, and, of course, the famous “pliontani” still lifes.

Ivan Marchuk. Cosmic mystery of life

Exhibition "Ukraine and Ukrainians. Identification"

This exhibition emerged from a collection of photographs and the imagination of artist and project curator Petro Honchar. The project's idea is to allow visitors to feel as if they are among their own.

The exhibition space is created from photographs of museum items and Ukrainian folklore. The auditory space of the exhibition will be filled with samples of authentic musical folklore from across Ukraine, published as part of the "BERVY – Traditional Music of Ukrainians" project.

Concert "Symphony of Independence"

On Independence Day, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will host a special concert "Symphony of Independence."

The program includes a performance by the Academic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Viktor Oliynyk and violin works performed by Andriy Pavlov. Among the compositions are Chamber Symphony No. 1 by Vitaliy Hubarenko and Symphony No. 1 by Borys Lyatoshynsky. The concert combines the power of Ukrainian music with our nation's desire for freedom.

Festival-fair "Power of Truth"

On August 24–25, the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Architecture and Life "Pirohiv" will host the festival-fair "Power of Truth." The event combines the richness of Ukrainian culture and folk art.

The program includes performances by vocalists, orchestras, dance groups, a puppet theater, workshops on folk crafts, and animation programs for children. Guests will be able to purchase unique products at the fair, enjoy craft goods and treats. Part of the funds will be directed towards supporting the prosthetics of soldiers.

Pravdy sila festival-fair

Exhibition "The Ukrainian sun of Crimea will not set, no..."

The title of this exhibition comes from a line in the poem "Crimean Fresco" by Ukrainian poet Yuriy Kyrychenko. It highlights an important period in the history of Crimea when it became part of the USSR in 1954. The exhibition tells about Ukrainian cultural life on the peninsula, which was disrupted by the annexation of Crimea by Russia. Specific sections are dedicated to Ukrainian landmarks, museums, and significant projects implemented during Crimea's time as part of Ukraine. The exhibition also covers the process of Crimean Tatars returning to their homeland and the role of prominent Ukrainians in preserving Crimean heritage.

Independence square
