For twenty years, Grandmother lived in anticipation of a miracle - waiting for her only grandson, to whom she dedicated her entire life. But when he finally comes, she chases him away.

Why did this happen? What pushed her to do this? Maybe a short acquaintance with the Director of the magic agency "Good Deeds" and his imaginary wife Martha? Or maybe she understood a simple and at the same time complex truth: close people are people who really make your life full, not those fictional creatures who are not worthy of your love.

The play "Trees Die Standing" based on the play by Alejandro Casona, for the first time on the stage of the Russian Drama Theater. Lesya Ukrainka was directed in 1956 by the now legendary director Leonid Viktorovich Varpakhovsky.

At that time, Varpakhovsky, working on the play, dedicated it to the memory of his teacher VE Meyerhold. It is no coincidence that the main material in the design of the play "Trees die standing" was dry bamboo. This is a parallel with the play of VE Meyerhold himself, "Teacher Bubus", and a description of the main character, Eugene's grandmother. After all, bamboo cannot be bent, it can only be broken. But breaking it is not so easy.

Then, back in 1956, such brilliant actors as E. Opalova, V. Khalatov, I. Pavlova, M. Rushkovsky.

But even the most talented performance, still, due to its specificity, can not be eternal. But the topics he touches on remain eternal.
