Kyiv National Linguistic University is the successor of the Kiev State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, founded by the order of the Ministry of Education of the USSR, No. 524/69 dated March 30, 1948.

Since September 12, 1994, according to the Resolution No. 592 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Kyiv National Linguistic University has been entered in the register of educational institutions of Ukraine with the grant of a license for the right to carry out educational activities for the III-IV level of accreditation and has the right to prepare specialists for educational and qualification levels: a bachelor, a specialist , master's degree in "Language and Literature" (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese), "Ukrainian Language and Literature", "Ps" (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Turkish, Persian), "Management of Organizations" (with knowledge of two foreign languages), "jurisprudence" (co knowledge of two foreign languages), "Applied Linguistics". The university received the status of an autonomous educational institution.

Over the past decades, the university has graduated from more than 26,000 highly qualified specialists who work in schools and higher educational establishments, in public administration and private entrepreneurship, who are in the diplomatic service, etc. Among the graduates is laureates of state and international Awards, People's Deputies, Honored Workers of Higher School, Honored Scientists and Technicians, Rectors and Vice-Chancellors of Higher Educational Institutions, Teachers and Scientific Workers School directors and teachers, writers, media workers, civil servants, well-known entrepreneurs.

Today, the Kyiv National Linguistic University is the leading educational and scientific-methodical center for the training of foreign language teachers, translators and specialists in foreign philology of higher qualification for both Ukraine and CIS countries, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Over 7,000 students study at the Faculty of English, German, French and Spanish, the Faculty of Translators, the Preparatory Faculty and the Faculty of Slavic Languages ​​(for foreign citizens), correspondence and evening studies, the faculty of postgraduate education, the Economics and Law Institute and the Institute of Oriental Languages. The first university in Ukraine has implemented and successfully prepares for six eastern languages: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Arabic and Persian. For the first time in Ukraine the Economics and Law Institute of the University began training for economists-managers and lawyers with knowledge of two foreign languages.

The University prepares scientific and pedagogical personnel of the highest qualification in post-graduate and doctoral studies in 20 specialties. There are two specialized councils for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations on Germanic and Romanian languages, comparative-historical and typological linguistics, on the methodology of teaching German, Romanesque and Ukrainian languages, and the literature of foreign countries.
