The name of Andriy Chebykin—graphic artist, educator, and visionary—is widely celebrated in artistic circles. However, this exhibition, organized for his 80th anniversary, is not a final summary or a static monument. Instead, it presents the living, breathing work of an artist who still feels a thrill every time he picks up a brush or a pencil. The exposition reveals the creative restlessness of a man who does not hide behind his titles but continues to work, teach, and learn.
Woman and Nature are Chebykin’s two lifelong artistic passions. For decades, he has remained faithful to these themes, unravelling the mystery of femininity and the beauty of the natural world. Whether in landscapes or nudes, the Master captures fleeting moments—flashes of anticipation, the tension of waiting, and the delicate quiver on the border between innocence and desire, fog and sun, tranquility and storm.
The exhibition spans decades of work: from his renowned 1970s–80s etchings and 90s Crimean watercolors to his latest Carpathian impressions and wartime reflections, shown here for the first time. As a "Renaissance man" and a singer of life, Chebykin resists apocalyptic narratives. His 2022 drawing, "An Enemy Shot Down over Tatarka," and the epic 2023 piece, "A Great Nation is Being Born," radiate faith and a powerful civic voice.
The project also features works by graduates of Andriy Chebykin’s Free Graphic Arts Studio. Over 55 years of teaching at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAOMA), he has mentored over 300 students. The inclusion of his now-famous pupils illustrates the Master's core pedagogical principle: creating the conditions for the free development of one's own creative individuality.
