In celebration of Kyiv Day!
Today, it can be said with certainty that beneath every European metropolis—London, Paris, or Athens—lie the traces of ancient farmers who established the foundations of modern civilization and the "urban revolution" millennia ago. "Greater Kyiv" now spans over 800 square kilometers. Within this area, more than forty sites are known where Trypillians lived at various times. Their earliest traces date back approximately 6,200 years, with a total history of habitation in this region spanning nearly a millennium.
It was the Trypillians who built the first fortress on the territory of Kyiv: today, we know this location as Lvivska Square. Their footprints can also be found on Starokyivska and Zamkova Hills, as well as within the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. We owe the story of "Trypillian Kyiv" to archaeologists who began discovering its traces as early as the first half of the 19th century.
Format: IN-PERSON lecture at the Kyiv House of Scientists (45a Volodymyrska St., near "Zoloti Vorota" and "Teatralna" metro stations).
Admission: Free.
