Kyiv Modern Ballet. Viy

On October 26, at the Ukrainian House of Culture and Arts (October Palace), Kyiv Modern Ballet presents the premiere of “Viy”, choreographed by Radu Poklitaru. This is not just an adaptation of Gogol’s story but a profound stage parable about the trials of the human soul, the power of faith, fear, and temptation.

At the heart of the story is Khoma Brut, a theology student who confronts invisible forces, his own fears, and temptations. Poklitaru’s choreography transforms Gogol’s plot into a contemporary emotional dialogue about good and evil, reality and dream, faith and doubt.

Gogol’s characters keep their original names but gain new movement, rhythm, and intensity. This is a story where classical literature comes to life through dance and light, creating a space between horror and beauty.
