We’ve gathered seven premieres worth your attention this October.
“Work with the Shadow” — Left Bank Theater
Tamara Trunova’s new premiere at the Left Bank Theater is difficult to describe using traditional theatrical categories. “Work with the Shadow” is a *devising theatre* project, born not from a script but from honest conversations between the actors and the director — with themselves and with what remained in the dark.
The Shadow here is not a metaphor of the past. It becomes a dialogue partner: speaking in fragments, triggers, foreign voices, media quotes, and what echoes in memory during a crisis. The performance explores how a person changes when their familiar world collapses — and whether one can accept their own darkness without losing themselves.
The production was created in partnership with the Left Bank Theater and Berliner Festspiele, supported by the Goethe-Institut. The premiere will take place on October 31.

“I See You're Interested in Darkness” — Wild Theater
Illarion Pavliuk’s detective thriller was once a literary hit — and now it comes to the stage. The production is directed by Maksym Holenko, artistic director of the Maria Zankovetska Theater in Lviv, while the stage adaptation was written by soldier Oleksii Dorychevskyi straight from the trenches.
In the plot, a young girl disappears in the village of Buskiv Sad. The police suspect a local maniac known as the Beast. Criminal psychologist Andrii Haister is sent to investigate the crime.
The twist of this premiere lies in its two versions. Kyiv and Lviv will present different productions — with different casts, scenography, and even endings. Both versions are rated 16+. In Kyiv, premiere performances will be held on October 30 and 31 and November 1.
“Play 22, or The Hero's Path” — National Operetta of Ukraine
“Play 22, or The Hero’s Path” is a noise drama about war, loss, return, and a person’s inner journey, written by soldier Volodymyr Tuka. His text is not fiction. It’s a personal story, lived and endured: at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Tuka was in occupied Kherson, went through torture, escaped, and joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces. From this reality, the performance was born.
The play was created as part of the first intake of the “Veterans’ Theater” playwriting school. The main character, with the call sign “Musician,” clings to peaceful life through sound — literally. His ukulele plays as a point of contact with the world that remains somewhere beyond the horizon of war. The stage begins in noise, chaos, and fragments of unstructured sounds. But with the protagonist, the space shifts from collapse to harmony — to an attempt to gather oneself from the fragments and not lose one’s humanity.
The production is unique in that, along with professional actors, it features veterans with no acting training — people who don’t “study” war but live its truth. Among the performers are medic and theater vocalist Ihor Mateiko, and the playwright himself, Volodymyr Tuka. The director is Mykyta Polyakov.
The team also plans to record the performance and hold a panel discussion on war, art, and the power of truth. The premiere will take place on October 15 and 16 on Stage 77.

«Сказки Гофмана» — Национальная опера Украины
Жак Оффенбах вошёл в историю как мастер оперетт, музыкальных комедий и водевилей, но его последнее произведение — совсем другое. «Сказки Гофмана» — его последняя и единственная опера. На сцене Национальной оперы её ставит Иван Урывский.
Главный герой — поэт и художник Эрнст Теодор Амадей Гофман — рассказывает истории своих трёх возлюбленных. Все они в итоге сливаются в образ Стеллы — реальной женщины, на которую Гофман проецирует свои фантазии, страхи и мечты.
В 2021 году театр уже показывал «Сказки Гофмана» в концертной версии, но теперь — полноценная сценическая постановка. Её ждали долго: сначала проект должен был ставить британский режиссёр Тони Палмер, но планы разрушили пандемия и война. Постановку перенесли — и в итоге передали Ивану Урывскому, одному из самых интересных режиссёров современного украинского театра.
Показ — 31 октября. Как это часто бывает со спектаклями Урывского — билетов уже не достать.

«Полиандрия» — Театр Франко / Театр драматургов
«Полиандрия» — это история не об экзотике многомужественности, а о том, как меняются отношения после войны. Автор пьесы Сергей Кулибышев говорит о вещах, знакомых многим сегодня: когда люди возвращаются домой другими, и вместе с ними меняется и жизнь рядом.
В центре сюжета — женщина, которая встречает своего мужа после госпиталя. Он вернулся, но всё уже не так, как было раньше.
Режиссёр Давид Петросян ставит спектакль вместе с Театром драматургов на камерной сцене Театра Франко. В работе с текстом команда сознательно отказалась от мелодрамы — здесь больше узнаваемых жизненных моментов, неудобных разговоров, иронии, которая спасает, и того самого юмора, без которого украинцы давно не представляют сложные темы. Это спектакль о возвращении, адаптации и людях, которые пытаются снова найти друг друга после изменений.
Премьера — 25 октября.
«Травиата» — Kyiv Modern Ballet
Раду Поклитару возвращает на сцену Kyiv Modern Ballet одну из самых известных историй мировой оперы — «Травиату». Он обновил либретто, сохранив основной сюжетный конфликт и драму самопожертвования, но сосредоточив внимание на Виолетте как центральной фигуре истории. Постановка выстроена как её личная, почти исповедальная история в маскулинном мире, который давит на выбор и свободу женщины.
В спектакле используются унисекс-костюмы художника Дмитрия Куряты, а также интерактивная видеосценография Ольги Никитиной, которая будет реагировать на действия артистов в реальном времени. Показы состоятся 16 и 17 октября.

«Лесная песня» — Киевский академический театр кукол
Киевский академический театр кукол показывает спектакль «Лесная песня» по произведению Леси Украинки. В нём рассказывается история встречи Мавки и Лукаша — столкновения двух миров: природы и человеческих ограничений. В театре отмечают, что спектакль поднимает тему выбора и сохранения себя, когда реальность не принимает мечты человека.
В команде подчёркивают, что это не классический кукольный спектакль: его ставил режиссёр драматического театра, в нём будет много хореографии, пластическая драма, использование масочных костюмов, подвижных декораций и игра не только с куклами.
Премьерные показы уже состоялись 4 и 10 октября. Ещё один пройдёт 23 октября.
