What to Do in Kyiv on the August 7–9 Weekend: Festivals, Concerts, Exhibitions, and Tours

The ethnic-electronic festival «Vyrii. Open Air», an acoustic concert by Domiy, jazz renditions of Sting's songs, a walk through Anna Sten's Kyiv addresses, and a volunteer cleanup at the ICCA — this weekend, the city will bring together music, history, and civic initiatives.

We've rounded up the events worth leaving home for on August 7–9.

Festival «Vyrii. Open Air»

The KYT cultural space will host the ethnic-electronic event «Vyrii. Open Air» for the second time. The festival will combine electronic music, Ukrainian folk traditions, and performance art, while its dress code will be a modern reinterpretation of traditional Ukrainian clothing.

The theatrical program is directed by Maksym Svets and Tetiana Kostyniuk. The festival grounds will also feature an official wedding ceremony area.

Lecture «The Illusion of Artificial Intelligence, or Space Without a Subject»

At «Plato's Cave», participants will discuss the difference between how users perceive artificial intelligence and how modern neural networks actually function. The lecture will trace the development from early mathematical models to large language models, while also exploring the concepts of artificial general intelligence and strong AI.

Topics include people's tendency to attribute intentions and consciousness to algorithms, the limits of machine understanding, AI paradoxes, and the ethics of the «black box». One of the lecture's central ideas is that a convincing imitation of human communication does not necessarily indicate the presence of consciousness in a system. The lecture is intended for audiences without a technical background; participants may attend in person or via Zoom, and a recording will be provided.
