A winter sunset in the capital is a special atmosphere that cannot be put into words. Pink, orange, and purple hues of the sky against the backdrop of snow-covered rooftops, Dnipro waves, or golden domes create moments that you want to keep in your heart forever.
We’ve prepared a selection of the best places in Kyiv where you can not only see but also feel the beauty of a winter evening. From panoramic rooftops and parks to riverside areas with a seaside vibe—choose your ideal view.
“The Most” Kyiv Sunset: TSUM Rooftop
Or, as they say, it doesn’t get more central than this: the main store in Kyiv with the main rooftop in Kyiv, offering a view of the main building in Kyiv with a star where Verka Serduchka herself resides. On top of that, you’ll find a cozy and warm interior, delicious cocktails, and possibly live or club music concerts. Undoubtedly, this is the prime spot for Kyiv’s aristocracy to meet the winter sun.
Address: Khreshchatyk Street, 38.
From a Modern Department Store to the Gulliver Rooftop
The modern department store offers you an open terrace on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in Kyiv. From here, you can best watch the sky as the sun departs, wrapping its rays around Kyiv’s administrative center. Food courts and bars are also at your service here.
Address: Sportyvna Square, 1A.
Obolonska Embankment
It might seem that embankments are not the best places for winter walks, as they are certainly not the warmest. But there is a unique charm to the cold Dnipro, as well as to observing typical summer recreational spots. Firstly, it’s extravagant—and the experience is truly extraordinary. Secondly, the winter sunset here is different from the summer one. Thirdly, of course, you need to dress warmly, but there’s a wonderful walking area that will undoubtedly enchant you with its winter scenery. And just in case, there is a genuine gallery of excellent establishments of various levels where you can always warm up with tea, cocoa, or something stronger.
Address: Metro Station “Minska.”
Seaside Vibes at Heroiv Dnipra
You’d be surprised, but to see a sunset over the sea, you don’t even have to leave Kyiv. At Heroiv Dnipra, there’s a view that resembles the sea to perfection. Our winters have become so mild that there might not even be ice on the water, but there is undoubtedly a special charm in this cold season. In fact, a beach walk in winter is incredibly beautiful. But, of course, you should dress as warmly as possible.

Park of Glory—Closer to the Stars
A magnificent park rises on the sacred Pechersk Hill—a classic and fail-safe spot to watch the sunset and later admire the starry sky. And what views open up of the brightly lit metropolitan highway, the Left Bank, and the Dnipro. It’s truly stunning here.
Address: Lavrska Street, 15.
Monumental—Near the “Motherland Monument”
Although it’s not far from the Park of Glory, the atmosphere here is entirely different. It’s an open square, so it’s always windy, but this only adds grandeur to the place with the monumental statue and our flag flying high. The views of Kyiv’s Left Bank here are complemented by views of the domes of the Lavra, Paton Bridge, and the Dnipro islands. The most ambitious can watch the sunset from atop the Motherland Monument—one of the tallest statues in the world. However, this requires booking a tour in advance.
Address: Lavrska Street, 24.

Like at a Winter Resort—Protasiv Yar
To watch a winter sunset here, it’s best to come during snowy weather. At the height of the slope, there’s a unique terrace restaurant. In the summer, they show movies over the cliff, while in winter, it’s a great spot for sledding, snowboarding, or even skiing. A perfect idea for combining sports thrills, romance, and ending the evening with coffee or mulled wine in the stylish glass Sunset Terrace venue. Additionally, there’s live jazz, French chanson, funk, and classical music performances.
Address: Protasiv Yar Street, 23A.
Orthodox-Historic—St. Sophia Bell Tower
Watching the sunset with a view of two main religious landmarks of Kyiv from the third one is an exquisite idea. Moreover, St. Sophia Cathedral is one of the most significant Orthodox landmarks in the world. The observation deck at the top of the cathedral is reached by ancient stairs numbering several hundred steps. The bell tower rises 76 meters. From here, you’ll see the sunset against the backdrop of St. Michael’s Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church, Sophia Square, Independence Square, and Mariinsky Park.
Address: Sophia Square, Volodymyrska Street, 24.
