The university was founded in 1930.
Fruitful and very useful is the activity of the specialized publishing house "Olympic Literature" created in NUVVSU. It prepares and publishes a variety of educational, scientific, encyclopaedic-informational, popular and other literature-books, whose authors are leading domestic and foreign specialists, as well as several special periodicals.
The university established close business cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy, the World Council for Sports Science and Physical Education, became a member of the European network of special higher education institutions of this profile and other structures, actively cooperates with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the Olympic Academy of Ukraine, with leading educational institutions and scientific centers of Germany, France, China, Canada, Spain, Russia, Poland, Brazil, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Colombia and many other countries.
In the world of sports, the University is known not only for the numerous Olympic winners and world champions that our university prepared, but also for those of its pupils - outstanding figures of this field, whom the International Olympic Committee noted with its high award - the Olympic Order: athlete Vladimir Golubnichy, scientist Vladimir Platonov , gymnast Boris Shakhlin, sports organizers Mikhail Baka and Anatoly Usenko.
At the university, talented young men and women are provided with appropriate conditions for improving sports skills: experienced trainers work with the athletes in NUFWSU, various specialized gyms and other sports facilities operate here, and the training process is based on the results of the latest scientific research and on modern methodological developments.
