On January 6, 2026, Orthodox Christians will celebrate Epiphany, one of the most significant holidays in the Christmas-New Year cycle.
Kyiv has prepared 15 locations for ice plunges. In this article, we’ll tell you where you can join the tradition and what facilities and safety measures await visitors.
Epiphany, also known as Jordan or the Baptism of the Lord, is the third and final major holiday in the Christmas-New Year cycle dedicated to Jesus Christ. According to church canons, when the Son of God turned 30, He was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. This event is commemorated by Christians annually.
In 2026, Orthodox believers celebrate Epiphany on January 6 according to the new church calendar, and on January 19 according to the old calendar. In the Roman Catholic tradition, the Baptism of the Lord is celebrated every year on the Sunday after Epiphany (January 6).
