This is one of the finest examples of early 20th-century residential architecture in Kyiv in the style of rational modernism. The walls feature an entire gallery of images: bird-sirens, doves, peacocks, snakes, grapevines, and even a panther.
Researchers interpret these symbols in different ways: some see references to the god Dionysus, others to Christian motifs. Some even believe it’s a kind of urban "Mowgli": on the third floor level, you can spot a composition featuring a boy and animals.
The main highlight of the courtyard itself is a small utility outbuilding. It might once have been a shed or an icehouse — a space for storing food during the summer heat. Today, its door looks like the entrance to an apartment.
