Gorodetsky House

A house with chimeras or "Gorodetsky's House" (the house of the house with Chimaeras or Gorodetsky House) is a unique mansion in the Art Nouveau style, decorated with fantastic sculptures (chimaeras) of fairy animals, dwellers of the underwater world, trophies of hunters. The building is located in the center of Kiev (in the Pechersky district) near the Administration of the President of Ukraine. The object has the status of a monument of architecture. Now the house with chimeras serves as the residence of the head of state. The house with chimeras is one of the most important sights of Kiev, it is an excellent place to make beautiful photos for a memory or to go on excursions. The well-known Kiev architect of Polish origin Vladislav Vladislavovich Gorodetsky (St. Nicholas Church) built this building on his own project for borrowed money in 1901-1903. The site for construction was located above the cliff near the street Bankova, before here was the shore of the drained Goat Marsh.

Vladislav Gorodetsky at that time was a very popular architect.

The object was built as an apartment house (in order to profit from the rental of living quarters), and the 4th floor with a total area of 380 m2 was intended for the Gorodetsky family. The plan was to make a luxury apartment on each floor and an elevator.

In the construction of a house with chimeras, the most recent innovative technologies were used at that time.

The process of construction was managed by engineer Anton Straus.

Sculptural forms were designed and executed by a talented Italian sculptor from the city of Milan - Elio Sala.
